I started classes again this morning. One of my classes is called Boot Camp, and yes, it is exactly what it sounds like! BOOT CAMP! HOO-YAH!
Ive been talking with friends in Haiti and am blown away by the fact that the Israelis managed to get a hospital up and running, (complete with x-ray machine, respirator etc,) before other countries even unloaded the first supplies. How did they do that?
It seems obvious that we, (ALL of us!)need to work out some kind of global disaster response system. Its horrifying how little organization there is. Surely between OFAM, Red Cross, Red Crescent, W.H.O and the U.N. we could manage to handle the next disaster more speedily and with alot more efficiency.
Remember also that TEXT Donations usually take 4-6 weeks to get processed. Larger organizations like Red Cross and OXFAM have systems in place to distribute needed funds and supplies much faster than smaller ones.
In the meantime, I urge you to give to REPUTABLE organizations like OXFAM and Red Cross. Remember that the longer an organization has been around, the less likely they are to be a scam.
Pray for the families, men, women and children who are in Haiti.
